Meeting Notes: January 15th, 2013 |
| Posted by Administrator (friends) on Feb 03 2013 at 3:56 PM |

.

.
Discussion and/or approval of November 20, 2012 minutes-motion was made, seconded and voted yes to approve.
Meeting Agenda:
.
a. Recycling update: Vendor: Adam Morley (AnJ Recycling)
Glass recycling, is it beneficial to the environment, is it cost effective?
It is beneficial to the environment. Our glass is being picked up by Advanced Recycling who are basically hauling off the glass for $68.00 a month. We are paying for them to haul the glass off not recycle it, because of the poor quality of the glass it is not worth recycling. To up the quality of the glass it would have to be sorted by color; brown, clear and green. Green has no value but brown and clear are worth about $35.00 a ton. In our busy season we do about 1000 lbs. a month. Even if we were to have the city pick up our glass along with the other garbage from the park there is a tipping fee and because of the weight of glass would probably cost about the same as Advanced. The only difference being that the Park would be responsible for that bill.
Aluminum and plastic recycling is currently being done by AnJ Recycling for free. FOA receives approximately $50.00 a month for the aluminum. Due to the cost of gas and man hours Adam has asked if FOA would be willing to let AnJ Recycling keep that $50.00 to defer the cost of picking up and hauling off those materials from the park to the recycling plant in Jacksonville. Adam also made a proposal to the Board regarding a dunk tank that he has purchased. If we let him keep the proceeds from the aluminum, we can schedule the dunk tank for our events at no cost.
b. Anastasia State Park: Cristy
Has sample color brochures and handouts for Anastasia State Park she has put together and is now looking for funding to print them. Asking CSO if she can solicit funding on our behalf on FOA letterhead. It is $165.00 for 1000 brochures. There are 6 different brochures, would like to start out with 1000 of each. They would be placed in the ranger station with a donation box for Friends of Anastasia with a suggested donation of $1.00 each.
Purchased camcorder FOA approved and got prices on laptops, which we have discussed purchasing in the past and found one for $300.00, to be used essentially for membership and accounting. Can download our own Windows program on it. Motion was made, seconded and voted yes to purchase a laptop with a budget of $400.00.
CSO will set up booth at Maritime Archeological Event Saturday February 2, 2013 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This years Beach Blast is June 1, 2013. Keep that date for possible fundraising event; definitely an information booth.
Putting together physical fitness 5 week program Saturday morning for one hour on the beach. Get local instructors to donate their time for yoga, pilates, tai chi, etc. Will be getting out more information on this as we get the program together.
Nominating Committee has a slate ready for Annual Meeting to take place on Jan. 27th, 2013 @ 6:00 PM at the Park (next to the Island Beach Store & Grill). Nominations are announced during the meeting and then opened to the floor. New members Bob Ganley and Sharon Burbelo agreed to be on the Board of Directors. Thank you......
Yard Sale set for February 23, 2013 at the Amphitheater flea market. We will be taking donations for the sale the week before. Donations can be dropped at the Administration building between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.; or you can call Shelley Stover at 904-315-8729 to schedule a drop-off.

We will also be purchasing name tags for the Board members and officers to wear at FOA events. Cristy is going to get quote on 20 shirts and present at next Board meeting. Possibly get some bumper stickers and pins made to sell at fundraising events.
